The Viana Palace interior tour

The patios get the photos, but upstairs the Marquises of Viana left a house full of tapestries, leather, porcelain and 7,000 books. A 40-minute guided tour takes you through it.

The interior of the Palacio de Viana is not open for wandering. You see it on a guided tour that leaves at set times, and you can't take photos inside.

The rooms span five centuries of collecting, from 1425 to 1980, and were lived in until the Viana family sold the palace to the Cajasur savings bank, which opened it to the public in 1981.

The quick answer

The interior tour lasts 40 minutes and costs €9, or €14 with the patios. It is guided in Spanish, with written English and French translation. Photos are not allowed. Highlights are the library, the leather gallery, the tile gallery and a salon hung with tapestries from Goya cartoons. The $10 GetYourGuide ticket does not include it.

What is the Viana Palace interior tour?

A 40-minute guided visit of the furnished rooms on the upper floor, the only way to see the inside of the palace.

It costs €9 on its own or €14 as a combined ticket with the 12 patios. Groups leave at fixed times from the ground floor, and a lift is available for visitors who can't manage the stairs.

Want the rooms covered in one booking? This guided tour includes tickets for both patios and palace.

What do you see upstairs?

The library, the leather and tile galleries, a Goya salon, battle paintings and cases of porcelain.

  • The library: two rooms, one French and one English in style, with about 7,000 volumes from the 16th to the 20th century.
  • The Galería de los Cueros: more than 30 pieces of Cordovan leather from the 15th to the 18th century.
  • The Galería de los Azulejos: 236 tiles from the 13th to the 19th century.
  • The Salón de Goya: four tapestries woven from Goya cartoons at the Royal Tapestry Factory.
  • The Sala de las Vitrinas: 18th-century porcelain brought by the East India trade.

Paintings by Valdés Leal and Luca Giordano hang in the baroque rooms. The list comes from the Universidad Pablo de Olavide's study of the palace.

What language is the tour in?

Spanish, with a written translation in English and French handed to you.

That is the palace's own wording on its visits page. If you don't follow Spanish, the rooms still speak for themselves, but you'll miss the stories about the family. A guided tour booked online gets around that: the patios guide explains the palace in your language before you go in.

Can you take photos inside?

No. Photos are allowed in the patios only, not in the interior, the stables or the institutional rooms.

Take your pictures in the patios before or after the tour.

How do you book a slot?

Buy the €9 or €14 ticket at the box office or the official ticket shop; in spring, reserve a few days ahead.

Places are limited and the times are fixed, so weekend slots in April and May go first. You can also phone the palace on +34 957 496 741. If you hold the GetYourGuide patios ticket, add the interior at the box office when you arrive.

How long should you allow for patios plus interior?

Two to two and a half hours: 1 to 1.5 for the patios and 40 minutes upstairs.

Book an interior slot about an hour after you arrive and do half the patios first. See the 12 patios guide for a route.

Is the interior tour accessible?

Yes, mostly: the palace has ramps and a lift inside.

The guided tours sold online are a different story. The GetYourGuide patios and palace tour says it is not suitable for reduced mobility, and the Viator visit is not wheelchair accessible.

Ground-floor galleries link the patios to the stairs and lift.

Is the interior tour worth the extra €9?

Yes, if you like historic houses: as part of the €14 combined ticket it costs €5.50 more than the patios alone. Skip it with small kids, or if 40 minutes in Spanish sounds like a stretch.

One guest in September 2026 put the appeal well: "What a delightful 'palace'. It's the former home of noble people. Well laid out and tranquil. The patios and rooms are a sweet respite from the heat of Cordoba." On a hot afternoon the shaded rooms are a bonus.
